Terri Hayes, Principal

It is my great good fortune to be living and working on the traditional, shared, unceded territory of the Secwepemc and Ktunaxa nations, and the land the Métis people of British Columbia have chosen as their home. My family and I have spent summers camping in the Lake Windermere area for decades, and finally made the decision to move here permanently in 2018. It is one of the best decisions we have ever made.

I am originally a Maritimer, having been born in Nova Scotia and raised in New Brunswick. A bit of an adventurer, I have lived in many places, including Montreal; Dawson Creek; Calgary, Medicine Hat; McAllen, Texas; and both Melbourne and Brisbane, Australia. I like to think that all of this wandering has allowed me to develop a broader perspective and to see many, varied possibilities. I hope that I bring this perspective to the work that I do with students.

I am a life-long learner, and have studied Occupational Therapy at McGill University in Montreal. I went on the earn a Bachelor of Arts in English, History and Ancient History from the University of Queensland, Australia. I also hold a Bachelor of Education from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, as well as a Master of Education from the University of Alberta.

Before going into teaching, I spent many years, while my children were young, working as a writer and editor. I honed my craft as a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education, serving as a classroom teacher, teacher-librarian, Learning Leader and Vice Principal before moving to Rocky Mountain SD6.

My husband and I have 6 adult children and 11 grandchildren. Without a doubt, my happiest days are spent while in the presence of children. I am indeed fortunate to to be in a position where my vocation is also my passion.
